Joan is nine years of age. She stays with her parents together with her siblings in Ngomongo slums, near Korogocho, in a one room semi-permanent house.

Joan’s father works as a farmer in the rural area while her mother is a house wife. Her parents earn little money from their occupations and everyday is a contest for their family’s survival.

Though life has been strenuous for this family, Joan loves to study hard and her favorite subject is Environmental Activities. She loves to do her homework and revise her study and her dream is to become a doctor.

Joan is the last born in a family of nine children and she attends school at High Ridge Baptist Academy.

Paying for food, clothes, rent and school fees is a constant challenge to Joan’s family and they live by God’s grace. Therefore it is Joan’s prayer that God touches someone’s heart to sponsor her education, to help her family out and to give Joan a chance to break free from the cycle of poverty.
